The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman

This book is about one of the most successful hideouts of WW2.  The keepers of the Warsaw Zoo saved hundreds of people from the Nazis.  After bombs hit the zoo and most animals were dead, Antonia and Jan Zabinskie - the zookeepers - began hiding Jews in empty cages.

Antonia realized if you hid people in plain view and acted as though nothing was wrong - the Nazis very seldom discovered them.

This book is very interesting and presented another great bit of WW2. Many of the books I've read about WW2 have been written by or about Christians. This one is from a different perspective.

It doesn't move very fast and doesn't give many dramatic details of the war. It  tells about Antonia, Jan and their son and their part in aiding others. Ackerman's research into this  part of history enhances this remarkable story.
